The ring simply presses onto the birfield joint. Other rings on the market require substantial machining by a professional to remove the lip and balance in order to press on their ring. This is certainly not desired because...
1) It is very difficult for someone to machine off the birfield lip (even if you have an advanced machine shop! and....
2) This is where the maximum stress is. By machining this area, you are creating stress in the birfield joint making it weaker. Intentionally weakening the birfield? Doesn't make sense.
